A marine survey is the examination and investigation of a vessel to ascertain its condition and value.  Vessels should be surveyed at least once every three years or any time there are concerns for the vessels’ safety and/or function.  Wagner Marine Surveying surveys vessels up to 100 tons and considers no vessel too small or unimportant.

Pre-Purchase Survey

A pre-purchase survey provides you with the necessary tools to make informed decisions regarding a vessel.  It also allows you to better negotiate with a seller for a price that accurately represents the condition and value of the vessel.  This survey typically costs a very low percentage of the vessel’s actual value and it can help save you thousands of dollars in pre-sale agreed upon repairs.  It can also help you establish a lower price for the vessel or avoid purchasing a costly mistake altogether.  A pre-purchase survey, also known as a condition and value survey, is used by insurance companies, financial lending institutions, boatyards, brokers, and others.  For more information on the components of a pre-purchase survey, click here.

Damage/Accident Inspection Survey

A damage inspection survey assesses the extent of damage to a vessel, recommends repairs, and reviews estimated repair costs.  If damages are due to a boating accident, a third-party surveyor (working for YOU and not your insurance company) can provide you with a fair, detailed inspection to protect you from liability and, if needed, to appear as an expert witness in your behalf.

Appraisals

Financial institutions, donations to non-profit organizations, and estimates for tax purposes or estates are all reasons to have a professional appraisal of your vessel conducted.  Any appraisal survey would be backed up with the appropriate federal paperwork and knowledge to make it dependable and applicable in its intended use.

Insurance Condition & Value Survey

Most Insurance companies require periodic inspections in order to continue coverage or when changing insurance companies. An insurance Survey can assure that your vessel is safer and insured for its fair market value. For more information on the components of a Condition & Value survey click here.
